Analiza anatomiczna drewna reliktowej sosny zwyczajnej z Sokolicy

The work describes anatomical analysis of the wood from a relict Pinus sylvestris L. performed to determine its characteristics. Transverse ca. 20 μm thick sections were prepared with a core-microtome and observed in bright-field microscopy. Observations of tangential sections were performed in epi-fluorescence. The xylem of the relict pine showed many narrow growth rings. The occurrence of i.a. discontinuous tree rings, light rings and intraannual density fluctuations was stated. It can be expected that specific properties of the wood of the studied pine are the result of harsh growing conditions – limited water availability at the top of Sokolica.
